May '25 - Ye Olde Mitre
Share
They say people can get lost trying to find the “Mitre”. What they don’t say is that if you do find it, you will never lose your way again. It’s that special. Tucked down a quiet, nondescript alleyway is this hidden gem of history. You will find yourself at close quarters with those “in the know” about this pub and those who, on the verge of giving up their search, managed to finally stumble their way across the threshold. Before you step inside, take the time to “listen” and marvel at the fact you are in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world, and despite that, all you hear are the voices around you.
The front bar seems to exist merely to provide passage to other spaces, both inside and out. Yes, it’s tiny, but that’s ok. It gives you pause to absorb your surroundings. You can feel the history, or maybe that’s just someone’s elbow. Either way, put on your hiking shoes and make the effort to find this beauty of a pub. You’ll be glad you did.
