May 25' - Lamb and Flag

It’s Friday night, and the Lamb and Flag is buzzin’. We’re here as part of Vic’s Dragon and Flagon pub tour group, and it’s all we can do to get anywhere near the bar. Nearby workers celebrating the end of the work week push the crowd out into the street. You wouldn’t expect a pub tucked into a corner and accessed via a tiny street or an even tinier alleyway to be this busy, but this is no ordinary pub.
Hidden behind a rather plain-looking brick façade is the traditional English boozer you can easily see with your mind’s eye. It’s all dark wood and subdued lighting, just how it should be. It’s loud but friendly, just as you would expect. The food is excellent here. The banter is upbeat, and the drinks are flowing courtesy of the hard-working bar staff. It’s a far cry from its 18th century nickname, The Bucket of Blood. That said, you might need to deploy the odd elbow or a well—timed bob and weave to get to the bar. Maybe best to visit midday when you can better enjoy the ambiance of this perfect London pub.
