May '25 - Cittie of Yorke

Today, we’re tucked away in one of the large booths in the Cittie of Yorke. We’re discreetly trying to film a few short videos to coincide with our book launch. We don’t really have a plan or, frankly, any idea of what we’re doing. Not that it stopped us from writing a book either. Just two largely analogue guys who find themselves living in an Instagram world. To top it off, we’re using a phone in a Sam Smith’s pub, which is, to be kind, frowned upon. We justify it by claiming we’re here to promote the pub (and the book, of course).
It really is the kind of place you would expect to see film cameras, crew and extras milling about as they prepare to film a scene from Wolf Hall or a similar period piece. Once you pass through the narrow entrance, a large baronial hall majestically appears before you. It stops you in your tracks the first time you enter. There’s just so much to take in. From the long bar (the Pub was once named Heneky’s Long Bar) to the giant overhead vats and the kind of high ceiling an interior designer would die for these days, this place takes you back in time. The dark wood and dimmed lighting leave you feeling like you could be plotting a rebellion, or mulling over devious ways to curry favour with the King. Discussions probably best left to the confines of the centuries-old cellar bar. Lest someone with a wandering ear were to overhear.
