May '25 - The Dog and Duck
Share
As we make our way through the throngs of revellers, theatre-goers, and those wistfully looking for a place to eat, we begin to wonder if our destination is just up ahead or on the other side of the planet. Such is SOHO on a Friday night. Less of a delightful wander through the city’s bustling entertainment district and more of a slog through a jungle of humanity.
Thankfully, The Dog and Duck appears much like an oasis, and we bundle ourselves through the doors. If we thought we’d find relief inside, we were about to be disappointed. It was packed. As it should be. The glazed tile work is magnificent and well worth seeing, at a quieter time. Kate and William have pulled pints from behind the bar here, but we found ourselves in the hands of a very competent bar staff who somehow managed to keep track of what they were doing despite the odds. We decided to step outside with our drinks, only to find ourselves battling to find a space to stand (elbows in) on what can only be generously described as “half a sidewalk” (or pavement on this side of the pond).
This is what happens when you have a lovely, historic pub in the heart of London: people come! Maybe best to drop by during the day - a weekday!
