May '25 - The Nell Gwynne

Pretty hard to be “off the beaten path” while you’re in the heart of one of the busiest areas of London, but “The Nell” qualifies on both counts. This charming, cozy pub is situated down a tiny alleyway just off Strand and next to Covent Garden. It can get so busy here that the alley becomes the de facto overflow area for the pub. Don’t let that scare you off. It’s busy because it’s worth a visit. Maybe drop by during non-peak hours to truly absorb the setting.
It’s warm, welcoming and full of the kind of ambiance you would expect from a traditional and historic boozer. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They specialize in gin to the extent that they even have a Gin Club. Be sure to seek out the free jukebox as it’s loaded with a great selection of tunes. Amble up, make your selections, sit back and absorb your surroundings. It’s a great place to unwind after enduring the crowds of Covent Garden. Ladies, it’s also a great place to park your husbands if you prefer to do your shopping unencumbered.
