May '25 - The Marquis

Many pubs (not just in London) are typically quiet during the day. Not so, The Marquis. This place always has a buzzy vibe to it. It could be the location, next to Covent Garden. It could be the steady stream of “regulars”. It could be the music on offer from their extensive vinyl collection. On this day, it’s probably a mix of all three, but the mix of Northern Soul throughout the pub adds a certain “bounce” to the proceedings. Surely a pub with this much history really has no business being this vibrant, but it is.
Think of The Marquis as a charging point for the human battery. You’ve slogged your way through the Market and surrounding stores. You need a break, both physically and mentally. You pop in to rest your feet, grab a drink and a bite to eat (the food here is top-notch). Pretty soon, your toes are tapping and your knee is bouncing. Maybe a little air guitar? You’re once again ready to do battle with the masses and damage to your credit card. The Marquis is an oasis where one is most needed.
