May '25 - Red Lion (Crown Passage)

Have you ever wondered what it must be like to walk into a bar or pub and feel like a “local” even though you’re not? You know the kind of pub I mean because right now you’re picturing the fictional Cheers. Well, pubs, in general, can often provide that experience. You simply order your drinks at the bar, find a table and the next thing you know, you’re speaking with people at the next table. The Red Lion (Crown Passage) is just that kind of pub, albeit one of the better examples. It’s a bit removed from the hustle and bustle of London, so you must know where it is. Only well-informed “tourists” can be found mingling with the “locals”. That makes it somewhat unique.

What makes it truly special are the “locals”. It's small enough that proximity alone tends to be a conversation starter, but the friendliness of the everyday patrons makes you feel at home. If you’re uncomfortable starting a conversation, don't worry – they will. Just be open to the experience. One of the greatest benefits of travelling is talking with the people wherever you happen to be visiting. Bit of advice… don’t lead with politics.
