July ’25 – Gordon’s Wine Bar

July ’25 – Gordon’s Wine Bar

Two rules to Gordon’s Wine Bar will serve you well if you choose to follow them: 1/ if you’re leaving a bright sunny day outside, then you are going to want to give your eyes time to adjust to what can best be described as “dimly lit” once you enter and 2/ proceed with caution as you enter the “cavern-like” area as the ceiling is rather low. Both of these tips should result in fewer bruises. If you happen to be abnormally tall, you might consider the outside terrace.

After dragging my wife (rarely reluctantly, I might add) to countless pubs, all in the name of research, it was only fair that we visit a wine bar. Gordon’s came into existence in the late 1800s after beginning life as a warehouse. Those humble beginnings are never far from view. A candle-lit stone passage leaves you feeling like you’re embarking on a search for buried gold. Now, I’m not a wine drinker, but my wife reliably informs me that the wine selection is excellent. Gordon’s is an institution that really must be experienced to be appreciated. We were not disappointed. As there is no beer on offer, I had a glass of water (I know), but it was a sacrifice worth making!
